Abstract

Energy is one of the most important cost elements in the production of the Portland cement. The economy of the process depends largely on the energy consumption or energy requirement per ton of clinker. This chapter deals with the heat loss from different equipments in the cement industry. The heat transfer calculation due to convection from the kiln surface, from where the major energy loss takes place, is shown. The calculation of heat loss due to radiation from the hot surface of any equipment is also shown. The energy loss percentage normally occurring from different equipments in a cement plant is shown. Heat loss map along the kiln length is also shown. The criteria of the use of insulation in any equipment are also discussed at length.
