Abstract
Purposes China owns the largest amount of bamboo resources in the world, but the added value of these resources lags far behind other countries because China’s bamboo industry remains at the OEM stage from a macro perspective. It is imperative to foster the original brand manufacturers (OBM) of the bamboo products. This paper comes up with the digitalized bamboo design approach and the bamboo industrial development system supported by social innovation. Methods The research digitalizes the traditional bamboo weaving techniques, studies the bamboo product design based on local resources, and combines design, production and social recognition in an open and innovative way. Conclusions Bamboo weaving is the traditional intangible cultural heritage of China. It is an essential task to revitalize this asset against the background of digitalization. Digitalization offers an ideal approach to design and study bamboo products in an open and innovative way.
