Abstract

Audiences are the subject of museum narrative. Research on audience participation behavior in digital narrative plays an active role in guiding digital narrative of museum exhibition. Based on elaborating the digital narrative theory, by referring to Layers of User Participation in Digital Narrative Texts of Marie-Laure Ryan, this paper compares and analyzes the museum exhibition case and hypertext novel, interactive game and virtual game in the digital narrative field, finds out their general characteristics and sorts out the specific types of museum digital narrative. Through case analysis, the characteristics of audiences’ participation interaction in museum digital narrative are researched, and the audience participation models of museum digital narrative are sorted out. It is pointed out that as the participation depth and breadth of audiences in narrative are strengthened, audience participation behavior has played a more and more important role in generation of exhibition stories. It is also found that the degree of audiences’ participation in creation of museum stories has always been restricted by the designed plot and the digital narrative system, but it seems like that AI and museum game provide higher possibilities for creators of museum stories.
