Abstract

The study assesses the impact of transport development projects on the urban expansion of metropolitan areas in terms of spatial cohesion and functional efficiency. The scope of research includes: analysis of transport needs in terms of adaptation to the functional and operational specifics of the location area, the impact of the urban sprawl phenomenon on the transport system in downtown areas. Existing transport plans were criticized and we believe they do not solve the most important problems. A new future-oriented concept of the transport system of the Poznań metropolis was presented. The obtained results are important for the development of the spatial development strategy of the Poznań Metropolitan Area.
