Metal-based functional materials for electrochemistry

The Metal-based functional materials have been playing key roles in electrochemical devices, including metal-ion batteries, metal-air batteries, metalsulfur batteries, electro-catalytic water decomposition, electro-catalytic carbon dioxide reduction, electro-catalytic nitrogen reduction and other applications. Metal-based functional materials are particularly important for carbon neutralization in society. In recent years, metal-based functional materials have shown many excellent properties in the field of electrochemistry, and have attracted wide attention from all over the world. On the one hand, traditional metal-based electrode materials have been widely used in secondary batteries. On the other hand, the doping of metal elements effectively improves the electrochemical reaction activity, thus promoting the development of electrocatalysis-related devices. People have also developed new strategies and technologies to improve the properties of metal-based functional materials and greatly expand their application fields. The purpose of this Research Topic is to provide a sampling of on-going, state-of art research on metal-based functional materials in the field of electrochemistry from fundamental research to practical applications, focusing on the current topics of high interest. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: (1) Metal-based functional materials as electrodes for secondary batteries; (2) Metal-based functional materials as electrodes for electrocatalysis; (3) Understand the electrochemical functional characteristics of metal-based materials; (4) Metal-based functional materials for new electrochemical applications.
