Abstract
Enlarged lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) are frequently a reason to consult the pediatric surgeon. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the various causes and methods to investigate a child with enlarged nodes. The increasingly important role of imaging, but also its limitations, as well as various invasive procedures are discussed.
The main issues for the pediatric surgeon are the indication for biopsy of enlarged nodes, the methods to assess lymph nodes in patients with malignancies and the need for radical lymph node dissection.
