Abstract
This chapter reveals ways in which governments from across the United States are using different forms of co-assessment to enhance public services. Specifically, this chapter looks at how the monitoring or evaluating of a wide range of problems that exist in society is being facilitated by advances in information and communication technology (ICT). The author has proposed a classification system for these ICT-enabled co-assessment technologies that can help scholars and practitioners alike in evaluating the depth and scope of the public engagement that these co-assessment strategies might require when implemented by a government. The type and quality of the assessment data that are created is not dependent on this proposed scale that ranges from ‘less’ to ‘more’ active involvement by the public.
