Definition
Political participation refers to the ability of a group of women or individual who are elected to a national legislature or local government body and try to make policy makers responsive to their needs while gender wall consists of the impediments to their access in electoral politics.
Introduction
Women are disproportionately represented at all levels of politics worldwide. There is an extensive scholarship (Rosen 2011; Stockemer 2015) on the factors affecting the political participation of women, ranging from traditional gender roles; role of the media; socialization processes; adverse political cultures; conservative cultural doctrines; financial barriers; violence, harassment, and security; and lack of self-confidence, amongst others. However, these barriers vary according to the geography, culture, and political system of countries.
