Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe with a population of 42,558,328 as of 1 February 2017 (State Statistic Service of Ukraine 2017). In 2015, Ukraine’s GDP amounted to US $ 90.4 billion, and the GDP per capita was US $ 2122 (World Bank 2017). Ukraine gained independence in 1991 as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Between 1991 and 2017, Ukraine went through two civil uprisings in order to protect the democratic rights of the citizens and promote economic reforms: the “Orange Revolution” in November and December 2004 and the “Euromaidan” from November 2013 to February 2014. The latter one led to the removal of regime of President Viktor Yanukovych and changed the geopolitical vector of national development toward joining the European Union.
