Abstract

Giorgio Benigno Salviati (Juraj Dragišić) was a Franciscan philosopher and theologian who lived between the fifteenth century and the sixteenth century. Despite being a little-known figure among the Renaissance humanists, he got in touch with some of the most important intellectuals and politicians of his time (Cardinal Bessarion, Federico da Montefeltro, Lorenzo de’ Medici, Girolamo Savonarola, Johannes Reuchlin) and took part in important philosophical debates, such as the Plato-Aristotle controversy, the disputes concerning the futura contingentia and the nature of the angels, the quarrel about Savonarola’s prophecies, and the controversy on the destruction of the Jewish books.
