Jose Szapocznik, PhD (1947–)
Introduction
Jose Szapocznik is the founder of Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). He is one of the top most NIH-funded researchers and has served on multiple boards, committees, and task forces. Recent positions include service as Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the National Advisory Council, Chair of the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse, Member of the Expert Panel for the National Strategic Plan on Hispanic Drug Abuse Research, and Secretary of Health and Human Services for the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He has over 250 publications. Szapocznik has been the Director of the Center for Family Studies at the University of Miami, Chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences and Director of the Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Emeritus Founding Director of the Miami Clinical Translational Science Institute.
