Alcohol-related violence is defined as “violence associated with use of alcohol.”
Introduction
Alcohol use disorder is the most common form of substance use disorder worldwide (Degenhardt et al. 2018). In 2010, alcohol use disorder alone accounted for 9.6% of the disability-associated life years (DALYs) caused by mental and substance use disorders, worldwide (Whiteford et al. 2013), whereas in 2016, it became 4.2% (Degenhardt et al. 2018). Violence associated with alcohol use includes both intentional and unintentional injuries. Evidences support that the risk of both of these increases with alcohol use (Degenhardt et al. 2018). Evidences support that in nearly one third of firearm violence, the person who used firearm was found to be in a state of acute alcohol intoxication.
