Introduction

According to the Sexual Strategies Theory (Buss and Schmitt 1993), women and men rely on short-term and long-term strategies for reproductive purposes. Women consistently prefer to secure long-term mates rather than engaging in short-term mateships. To secure long-term relationships, women use specific strategies in both selecting and retaining a romantic partner. Self-promotion and derogation of rivals are the most widely used higher-order strategies that women use in intrasexual competition, long-term mate attraction, and mate retention in romantic relationships.
