Alfred Wiskott was born in Essen, Germany, in 1898. He fought in the First World War and was badly wounded at the battle of Verdun (France) in 1916. After the war he started his medical training in Munich, where he subsequently followed the training in pediatrics at the Dr. von Haunersches Kinderspital, part of the University Clinics of Munich. He became director in 1939. After the Second World War, he was involved in the reconstruction of the hospital, which had been badly damaged by allied bombing. He retired in 1967.
