Definition

Urothelial carcinoma, poorly differentiated includes tumors with different morphologies characterized by high malignant mononuclear epithelial cells and multinucleated giant cells (Moch et al. 2016).

Clinical Features

  • Incidence

    These tumors are uncommon.

  • Age

    The age of incidence is the same as invasive urothelial carcinoma.

  • Sex

    There is a male predominance in the few reported cases.

  • Site

    More common in the urinary bladder.

  • Treatment

    Surgery and chemotherapy treatment according to the stage disease.

  • Outcome

    Limited reported data support a poor outcome to this category of poorly differentiated urothelial tumors.

Macroscopy

No specific gross features are associated with these tumors. Most poorly differentiated urothelial carcinomas are reported as large masses.
