Classification
The commonest tumors of the vagina are epithelial tumors. The classification of carcinomas of the vagina parallels that of the cervix, with HPV-associated and HPV-independent squamous cell carcinomas recognized as separate entities. In addition, the vagina is the site of benign tumors, adenocarcinomas, mixed epithelial and mesenchymal tumors, pure mesenchymal tumors, and metastatic tumors (Table 1).
