Definition
Political trust is an evaluative orientation of citizens toward their political system, or some part of it, based upon their normative expectations.
Introduction
The political trust literature has expanded in recent years, mainly because declining trust in government has sparked an interest in this topic. Survey-based studies have observed diminishing levels of trust in government in countries with different political systems and cultures across the United States and Europe (Houston et al. 2016). Studies show that trust in public bureaucracy is actually higher than in other government institutions. However, the low and declining trust in public administration is assumed to be a global phenomenon (Van de Walle 2007).
