Introduction

Higher education is considered important for the socioeconomic development, both in the European and in the international level. The global socioeconomic developments led the educational systems, and especially these in the field of higher education, into extensive changes (Amaral et al. 2009). Such changes concern the increase of access into the higher education (e.g., in 2004, an amount of 132 million students entered the higher education, whereas in 1991 this amount was just 68 million students) (OECD 2008), the emergence of new forms of education (such as the remote education and the e-learning), the reconfiguration of the students’ population-structure (concerning the increase of women participation, the socio-economic and cultural heterogeneity, the deepening of the educational...
