Definition
“Women empowerment” broadly refers as the capability to take self-decisions, freedom to exert their choices, self-reliance, accessing resources, capacity to influence the social change for building a more just social and economic order nationally and internationally (Chowdhury and Chowdhury 2011; Varghese 2011). Kishor and Gupta (2004) defines Empowerment as the process by which the powerless gain control over their living conditions that allows one to overcome external barriers. From the perspective of Bhattacharya and Banerjee (2012), empowerment is a process of capability enhancement which encourages women to attain power through social networking. Porter (2013) also claimed women’s empowerment is about power with and power to, instead of power over. And these powers bring transformative change by mobilizing women in communities to bring about positive change.
