Definitions

Aging:

It refers to the process of becoming older. A process that is genetically determined and environmentally modulated.

Population aging:

It refers to a phenomenon of increasing median age in the population of a region due to declining fertility rates and/or rising life expectancy.

Introduction

Aging is a universal phenomenon and a by-product of physical, psychological, and social processes. The phenomena of aging can be described as a progressive functional decline, or a gradual deterioration of physiological function with health needs eventually become more complex (Lopez-Otin et al. 2013). With aging, there is declining physical and mental health, increasing dependency, limiting of the social roles and functioning, isolation and loneliness, and economic hardship, which mostly is considered as the responsibility of the family and society (Lloyld-Sherlock 2000).
