Definition
The Indian Constitution under article 44 of the Directive Principles of State Policy states that it is the duty of the State to secure for the citizen a Uniform Civil Code throughout the territory of India. Uniform Civil Code has its root from the civil law that envisages the administration of same as civil law by governing different people belonging to different religions and regions. So it is simply a systematic collection of regulations and rules, procedure, or conduct. The expression of Uniform Civil Code is a combination of three words: Uniform, Civil, and Code. The word Uniform is a similar law for all, and resemblance is based on factors like equality and gender justice. The term civil code covers the entire body of laws governing rights personal matters like marriage, divorce, maintenance, adoption, and inheritance.
