Definitions
During the 2000s, researchers realized the importance of studies of Green Human Resource Management (HRM) as a topic at the intersection of corporate environmental sustainability and HRM (e.g., Aiman-Smith et al. 2001; Albinger and Freeman 2000; del Brío et al. 2007).
Green HRM can be defined as a set of people-centered practices oriented toward developing and maintaining the workforce’s abilities, motivation, and opportunities to contribute to an organization’s economic and environmental sustainability (e.g., Martínez-del-Río et al. 2012; Renwick et al. 2013). Therefore, it can be conceived as a set of best HRM practices oriented toward enhancing the overall environmental sustainability orientation of all of the functions and dimensions of an organization.
