Definitions

The expression “local products” refers to the production peculiarity of a specific space and also the aspects of the culture in a particular region. The products’ and foods’ local identities are becoming increasingly important. This idea gives meaning to the social and cultural actions when mentioning food and local culture, thus, with this understanding of the importance of the local products within the peculiarity and the cultural aspects of creating local links with the place of production (Geertz 2008). Discussing about food and food choices forms the habits that are part of the cultural elements of what we eat (Contreras and Gracia 2011).

In this context of products and local culture, it comprises a set of elements that are present in the territory at material and immaterial levels, so local culture refers to what constitutes the region’s wealth (activity, landscapes, heritage, traditional knowledge) sometimes promoting competitiveness (Krucken 2009).
