Introduction

The United Nation’s (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was created in 1945 in response to the recognition that inadequate food supplies for growing populations in unstable developing countries could affect global security. Since the time of its development, recognition of the importance of food security for global stability has only increased, and today food security is viewed as a key component of government national security interests. Over time, this recognition led to a need for greater promotion and development of food security and nutrition goals, which coincided with the United Nation’s (UN) goals to focus on human welfare. Consequently, in 1974, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) was established as an intergovernmental forum for review of policies concerning world food security.
