Zusammenfassung
Metabolische Enzephalopathien stellen oft eine diagnostische Herausforderung dar, da sie sich klinisch sehr variabel präsentieren, und – außer im Falle einer schweren Hypo- oder Hyperglykämie – regelhaft andere mögliche Ursachen der neurologischen Symptomatik ausgeschlossen werden müssen, bevor die Diagnose gestellt werden kann. Gerade in Zeiten zunehmender Spezialisierung schärfen sie den Blick für das Ganze und erinnern daran, dass der Mensch mehr ist als die Summe seiner Organe. Sie zeigen auch, dass gute Medizin eine gute Kommunikation zwischen den Disziplinen voraussetzt.
