Zusammenfassung
Die Mortalität ist bei Epilepsiepatienten im Vergleich zur Allgemeinbevölkerung signifikant erhöht, die Lebenserwartung ist reduziert. Neben dem Risiko durch Verletzungen im Anfall, erhöhter Mortalität im Status epilepticus, Ertrinken, der Prognose der Grunderkrankung und Suizid ist hierfür vor allem auch der „Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients“ (SUDEP) verantwortlich.
