Abstract
Wound healing is a process that is fundamental to maintaining the skin’s defensive and protective functions. Wound healing disorders and their consequences represent a major medical and interdisciplinary challenge in everyday practice and clinic. In principle, disorders of wound healing can occur at any age, are often the symptom of an underlying disease, and manifest clinically in different ways. In particular, the demographic change plays a critical role in increasing the number of patients with chronic wounds. The underlying causes are often complex, and require systematic and interdisciplinary diagnostics. The combination of treatment of the underlying disease and elimination of possible local disruptive factors by means of modern wound treatments is the basis of an efficient treatment. In this chapter on wound treatment, the authors systematically present the diagnosis and treatment of frequent and rare causes of impaired wound healing conditions.
