Abstract

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis affecting young children. Although primarily a cutaneous disorder, it can affect the eye and its ocular manifestations are diverse. Involvement of the iris, choroid, conjunctiva, eyelid, and orbit have been described. Although typically a benign, self-limited disorder of the skin, ocular involvement can lead to vision-threatening complications, including hyphema, secondary glaucoma, and amblyopia. The clinician must be aware of this uncommon masquerade syndrome as prompt diagnosis and treatment are critical to prevent vision loss.
