Abstract
Idiopathic multifocal choroiditis (MFC) is a bilateral chronic progressive inflammatory chorioretinopathy affecting predominantly myopic Caucasian women with no known associated systemic or ocular diseases. The disease is characterized by yellowish-white lesions affecting posterior pole, periphery, or both. Active disease involves the outer retinal layers and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and spares the choroid. The vision-threatening complications of the disease include macular edema, choroidal neovascularization (CNV), and punched-out scars. Although there are no standard treatments, anti-inflammatory medications are prescribed in active stages to control the inflammation along with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents in cases with CNV.
