Technology Teacher Education in the USA

Introduction

In the USA, education is primarily the responsibility of the individual states and their municipalities. The federal government is also involved in education, since it contributes about 8% of the financing for elementary and secondary education (K-12). This is projected to be $59 billion for 2019, a 30% reduction from the previous year. With states accepting federal dollars toward financing education come additional measures of accountability, including reporting annually to the federal government’s Department of Education how the funds are spent and the results of these investments. The mission of the Federal Department of Education is to promote student achievement and their preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
