Abstract
Inspired by the teacher development schools in the USA, the first five teacher development schools in China were jointly established in 2001 by the College of Education, Capital Normal University, with five primary and secondary schools in the Fengtai District of Beijing, which created a precedent for the construction of teacher development schools in China. Since then, teacher development schools have started to be established in Zhejiang, Shanghai, Tianjin, Sichuan, Qinghai, and other cities in China. The establishment of teacher development schools has established a “community” with a focus on the cultivation of teachers and has practically broken down the fences between universities and primary and secondary schools. The core concepts of “feedback, transcendence, and activation” are emphasized in the process of building teacher development schools, also promoting the development of both universities and primary and secondary schools. The value of teacher development schools for teacher training has been widely recognized by universities, for it is becoming an important way to change the mode of teacher education and promote the professional development of teachers.
