Abstract

Birgivî, Takıyüddin Mehmed Efendi (Balıkesir 1523–Istanbul 1573), was an influential Ottoman scholar and judge, who opposed the political ideas prevalent in his era by upholding old Islamic practice and advocating the abolishment of innovation; his ideas had an enormous influence throughout the seventeenth century.
