Abstract

Andronicos Callistos was a Byzantine philosopher and scholar who, after the fall of Constantinople, moved to Italy to teach the Greek language. He later left for Paris, where he was instrumental in the growth of Greek studies, and London. He took part in the controversy between Platonists and Aristotelians that divided Byzantine émigrés in Italy. As an Aristotelian, he defended Theodoros Gazes against the accusations of the Platonist Michael Apostolis.
