Abstract
The idea that human destiny is predicted according to astrological and philosophical laws has been widespread since Antiquity. Strongly linked with the fate and fortune concepts, astrological determinism received new interpretations during the Renaissance period. The reason was a renewed interest in Cicero’s treatises, as well as in Alexander of Aphrodisias and Stoic philosophy. On the other hand, the question of determinism seems to be closely related to religious and philosophical disputes of the sixteenth century.
