Zusammenfassung

Aufgrund umfangreicher Forschungsarbeiten steht der Ärzteschaft heute ein großes Arsenal hochwirksamer, kostengünstiger und nebenwirkungsarmer Strategien zur Verfügung, um Schlaganfälle zu verhindern. Würden diese Möglichkeiten genutzt, hätte das einen weitaus größeren therapeutischen Effekt als jede Akut- und Rehabilitationsbehandlung der Schlaganfallpatienten nach Eintritt des Ereignisses. Das gilt sowohl für die Verhinderung von Todesfällen, körperlicher Behinderung und persönlichem Leid als auch bezüglich der Kosten für die Gesellschaft. Tatsache ist jedoch, dass die präventiven Möglichkeiten bei Weitem nicht ausgeschöpft werden.
